A story of rebirth. From purchase and restoration to a dream drive to Monte Carlo.
In autumn 2014 we bought a Rover Mini Balmoral Edition near Ingolstadt, Germany. At the time, no one expected how much this car would change our family’s life. It looked decent at first glance, but we knew that to rebuild it our way, we had a long road ahead of us.
Bodywork was the most demanding part as always. Once complete and sent to the paintshop, we prepared all remaining components for final assembly. Every bolt and nut was blasted and zinc-coated, and every critical mechanical part was checked and restored.
The original idea was a quick repair, but once we opened the car we discovered extensive previous damage and poor repairs. So we stripped it completely. Floors were welded, suspension refinished, engine prepared, and the roof lining rebuilt by an upholstery specialist.
After final body prep, the shell went for paint in legendary British Racing Green. Once back in the workshop, assembly moved quickly and smoothly. The first days felt like pure joy: everything fit, everything worked, and progress was fast.
As the project continued, we faced personal hardship and loss in our family. The workshop became both difficult and healing at the same time. Even in hard moments, we kept moving forward and finished the project with deep respect and emotion.
Only work on great classic cars could keep us going. On 20 December 2015 we finally sealed the windshield and completed one of the last critical steps. At that moment, all the pressure dropped. Total recorded time: 786.5 hours.
With Balmoral complete, our first spring drive had one symbolic destination: Monte Carlo. The place connected with Mini Cooper’s rally legacy. Dreams should be fulfilled, no matter how crazy they seem.
We offer consulting for selecting and buying classics, and we restore historic cars and youngtimers.
